Other information
$1,112 pcm for a downstairs bedroom, private downstairs lounge, private bathroom with bathtub, and upstairs studio space with balcony access.

Come live at the Manor where Mountain Ash, Redwoods and tree ferns are your neighbours!

Are you looking for more than just a bedroom to rent? Needing a home studio? Are you after more personal space for half the cost of living alone?! You can have all that *and* your own downstairs living room for $1,112 pcm by sharing this glorious big house with just two other folks!

We are looking for 1 lovely human to move in stat. You’d be paying $1,112 pcm p/cm for the downstair bedroom, and the studio space directly above (that has balcony access). The downstairs lounge room and bathroom will also be yours (to decorate and use as you please) as part of the rental cost.

The downstairs nest is a divine room surrounded by forest and is south-east facing so it gets great sunlight. It and the other rooms will be available in September.

Home Description

Description of the home

Important note right up: The property can’t be fenced so it's not possible to have dogs living here. Must be okay with cats. We can't accommodate any pets though. Sorry.

We live in a compelling and beautiful part of Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges. We have a path to our secret garden; you can walk directly into the forest via our yard. The house is pretty damn gorgeous too; it's super spacious and hosts a huge kitchen, two lounge rooms and the most lovely balcony to watch the birds. There are a couple of (currently neglected but ready for fresh hands) veggie patches, compost bins, and a fire bath!

We’re looking for a legend who's experienced in the ways of actively contributing to the care and functioning of a safe, happy home. Aged in their late 20’s – to 30’s, but open to others age ranges if the shoe fits.

Ideally, you are conscientious and self-reflective, have some confidence in communicating your wants and needs and are pretty good at cleaning up after yourself and helping out with communal chores.

There is some noise from the floorboards, so it's best, if you are taking the downstairs bedroom, that you aren’t too worried by the sound of foot traffic from above, as there will occasionally be some midnight snacking.

It gets a lot colder out here than in central Melbourne, so if you can cope with colder temperatures that'll be a huge advantage to you and your comfort.

About the occupants
You’ll be co-inhabiting with two disabled, queer witches. We are a couple and thrive off a blend of silly playfulness, deep conversation and solitude. We both have a deep love and reverence for nature, are on the left end of the political spectrum, and enjoy sharing feasts, cackling, and watching movies with other housemates. We're both fully vaccinated and need you to be the same unless you can’t for health reasons. We’re big on kind, upfront communication (rather than cancel culture tactics) to work together to create a harmonious living environment.

Rachael (34) is a disabled, neurodivergent, shadow worker. She works as a tarot reader and ceramic artist. She's also supported by the Disability Support Pension. Her favourite colours are burnt orange and yellow, but black is her favourite (non-colour) of all! She previously worked for over five years as a witch-for-hire, and has strong ethics around magic (there's no coercive spells performed or summoning of harmful spirits in this house).

Cat (35) is a neurodivergent, non-binary kitchen witch with an extensive love of spiders. She can tell you all about them and their huge array of webs and hunting styles. She is partial to crafting but also lives for spending time in nature, especially by the sea, and mushroom hunting. Her favourite colours are spiritual blue and chartreuse.
Compatible people
Respectful meat-eaters are welcome. We are a household that avoids killing bugs, spiders and rodents though. We have all chosen to live in the quiet of the Hills to enjoy the peace of the forest, so maintaining that atmosphere is important to us. Quiet in the early mornings is also really important to us.
Ideally, you enjoy living around a witchy maximalist decorating style, as Rachael is an exuberant decorator. This is your opportunity to decorate up a storm in your private lounge, bedroom and studio, with the possibility of merging some décor with ours if our styles match really well.
We are looking to live with someone who is open to disability justice and can be sensitive to the different needs of neurodivergent folks as well. And if you are amenable to chats about anti-capitalism and socialism all the better! Haha!
