Other information
This oversized bedroom is at the front of the house (the opposite end to my upstairs bedroom), and includes a Queen Size bed. I’d prefer to keep the bed in there if possible, but it can be removed if you like. There’s also a large electric sit/stand desk if you WFA or are studying, which can also be removed. There’s plenty of storage with a double wardrobe. You’ll have your own bathroom, right next to your bedroom, which has a combined bath/shower and toilet. Everything is new and very tastefully decorated (it actually won a bunch of awards for interior design). The house, including your room, has hydronic heating powered by gas, and ducted aircon for the 3 days per year when Melbourne gets hot. I also pay a lot of bills that other places would charge you for - water, internet, streaming services, etc.

Home Description

Description of the home

Despite the Preston postcode, it's 100m from the border of Thornbury/Preston (Dundas St), and is 1km from dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars and other cool stuff on High St. It's absolutely what most would describe as a luxury home - I've been here almost 3 years and it still feels more like I'm staying in a hotel than a house :). The house includes an alarm and external camera system. I feel pretty lucky to have such a unique property. Note that the house has 2 cats - an 8 year old Siamese boy called Albert, and a brand new Toyger kitten (4 months old) called Coorinna (she's only been here a week, but is settling in perfectly). They're both toilet trained and very affectionate.

It's also 1.5km from train/tram, while the bus stop is literally 20m from the house. There's heaps of off-street parking if you drive. The entire house was fully renovated just a few years ago so has all the modern conveniences you can think of. It really needs to be seen to be appreciated, and so you understand why the rent is on the higher end. This is not your average share home!

Internet is free, along with streaming services (Disney, Netflix, Binge, Stan, Prime and Apple TV+). $120 per month for cleaner, roughly $300 per month for electricity/gas. Overall the house is constructed to save as much energy as possible (double glazing, thick insulation, etc). Water paid for by me.

About the occupants
I'm 48 (feel more like 30 though), ex-technology journalist, about to go back to school to train as a Teacher's Aide. I also volunteer 2 days per week for DIVRS, helping to make food hampers and deliver them for those in need. I'm fairly sociable, but also enjoy my own time - I tend to go out at least a couple of nights per week. I'm really into doing interesting stuff, from going to see a live band, or checking out a new play. I also love to travel, but am taking a break after overdoing it the last year. I hit the gym at least three days per week, at the amazing new Northcote Aquatic Center (2km away - absolutely worth a look if you want to stay fit).
Compatible people
I'm looking for someone in their 30/40s, social but not a party animal. I don't mind if you smoke weed (outside only though, including vapes) or drinks, but not someone who does either of these every day of the week. No harder drugs either. I require 2 to 3 references, preferably landlords and or rental agencies. Interest in this property is quite high, so good references will help you secure the room. If you have a partner, unfortunately they can only stay 3 nights/days per week - more than that and they’re basically a full time tenant. Sorry to have state this, but I’ve had flatmates who think it’s ok for their boyfriend to basically live here every second the flatmate is here. Very weird.
Description of pets
Siamese cat called Albert, extremely affectionate. I also just picked up a baby Toyger called Coorinna, who is 4 months old. She is already toilet trained, has only been in the house for a week, but is already mates with Albert. Both cats are used to dogs, and if you come with a cat we’re going to have to slowly, slowly introduce them.
